Piatra-Olt, Romania — Nine people were hospitalized Monday evening after a 19-year-old driver lost control of his car and plowed into a bar terrace in the town of Piatra-Olt, authorities said.
Police said the car veered off the road for reasons still under investigation and slammed into the outdoor seating area of the bar. The driver, three passengers and five people on the terrace were all taken to a nearby hospital with injuries.
According to officials, the driver tested negative for both alcohol and drugs. Investigators have opened a criminal case for bodily harm by negligence as they work to determine the exact circumstances of the crash.
