NEW YORK, NY — A 24-year-old woman was struck and killed by an oncoming L train at Union Square station late Monday night after stepping onto the tracks to relieve herself, according to police.
Authorities say the woman attempted to climb back onto the platform as the train was approaching but was hit before she could get to safety. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the incident appears to be a tragic accident, with no signs of foul play.
L train service between 8th Avenue and Bedford Avenue was suspended temporarily while emergency crews responded.
