NYPD officer injured during Manhattan traffic stop
MANHATTAN, NY – An NYPD officer was injured after a car sped and reversed during a traffic stop in Manhattan on Wednesday, according to police.
According to the NYPD, the incident started when a driver fled a traffic stop near West 38th Street and Seventh Avenue at around 4:50pm. Police again intercepted the driver near East 30th Street.
However, during the traffic stop, the driver suddenly reversed and sped off, striking an officer in the course of action. The police officer was hospitalized in stable condition after suffering a head injury.
The motorist drove down East 30th Street after colliding into a dining shed, narrowly missing numerous pedestrians. At Lexington Avenue and East 30th Street, the driver then abandoned the car and ran away on foot. Police conducted a thorough search of the area, but were unable to locate the suspect.
A short while later, police made a radio announcement stating that a nearby security camera had captured a picture of the suspect’s face.
The culprit remained at large as of Wednesday night.
