OAKLAND, Calif. — An Oakland restaurant owner was robbed at gunpoint right outside his eatery in the Dimond District.
Officials say the owner of La Perla Puerto Rican Cuisine was talking to two friends outside his restaurant near Fruitvale Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard when three armed pulled up.
In surveillance video of the incident, the victims are seen talking in a parking lot when the burglars approach the men with their weapons draw.
According to the Oakland restaurant owner, Gabriel Ortiz, the suspects made off with his friend’s cash and robbed his gold necklace as well as his gun.
“I was getting ready to pull my own firearm, and this guy was right behind me. So there was already a tussle, with him knowing that I had a gun. He was like, ‘Get his gun!’ So that was a game-changer,” Ortiz said.
The case is being investigated by the Oakland Police Department.
