Ohio deputy-involved crash sends at least 2 to hospital

Manchester, Ohio – A crash involving an Adams County deputy sheriff sent at least two people to the hospital over the holiday weekend, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The deputy was responding to a call Saturday night when his vehicle collided with another car at the intersection of Washington Street and East 6th Street in the village of Manchester, the patrol said in a news release.

An OSP dispatcher said the deputy ran the stop sign at the intersection as he responded to a domestic-related call.

The lights and siren were initially on his cruiser, but he turned them off right before the stop sign, she said.

Law enforcement officers typically turn off their lights and sirens before they arrive at domestic calls, so it does not alert the suspect, she explained.

The deputy was treated at the scene and released.

The occupants of the other vehicle were taken by private vehicle to the Adams County Regional Medical Center for minor injuries, according to OSP.

The incident remains under investigation.
