Orange County deputy accidentally shoots home invasion victim in Pine Hills

PINE HILLS, Fla. — A Florida sheriff’s deputy has been reassigned after accidentally shooting the victim of a reported home invasion in Pine Hills.

The incident happened on August 23, when deputies responded to a home on Sheringham Road after a man in his 40s reported that four people were trying to break in. The man told investigators he fired shots to scare off the suspects before calling 911.

When deputies arrived, the man came to unlock his door to meet them. According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, one of the deputies’ weapons discharged by mistake, striking the resident.
