Palestinian man shot dead by police after stabbing Israeli man in Jerusalem

A Palestinian man was shot dead by police after stabbing an Israeli man near Damascus Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem Saturday.

Footage from the scene, near Damascus Gate, shows police shooting at the Palestinian suspect at least twice as he already laid on the ground, seconds after the stabbing.

Police sources say the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Mohammed Shawkat Salameh from Salfit, tried stabbing a Border Police officer after stabbing a civilian.

The Israeli victim, identified as an ultra-Orthodox man in his 20s, was taken to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in moderate to severe condition.

Brief clashes erupted between Palestinians and Israeli forces at the scene following the stabbing, and police used stun grenades and other riot control measures.
