ARIZONA — Phoenix police released bodycam video Tuesday of an officer-involved shooting that left Miguel Hernandez-Rodriguez dead.
Officers responded to an apartment near Roosevelt and 30th streets on July 20 at around 7:15pm — following a 911 call for a domestic violence incident.
A woman in the apartment told a dispatcher her husband hit her and was holding a knife, police said.
When police arrived at the scene, they made contact with the woman who called for help. She told officers that her five children were still inside the apartment with her husband, identified as 31-year-old Miguel Hernandez-Rodriguez.
Bodycam video released shows officers approach the front of the apartment.
Hernandez-Rodriguez opens the front door and exits the apartment, knife in hand, police said.
“Show me your hands,” an officer is heard telling Hernandez-Rodriguez.
Moments later, an officer opened fire and shot Hernandez-Rodriguez after police said he ignored commands and continued approaching them with the knife.
Hernandez-Rodriguez was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The incident remains under investigation.
