Police officer shot to death during bookmaker robbery in Dominican Republic
Videos show a police getting officer shot to death during a bookmaker robbery in Dominican Republic.
“Unidentified individuals shot and killed a National Police officer on Fabio F. Herrera Avenue in Baní on Saturday.
The victim is Eddy Calcaño Castillo , who was a member of the Criminal Investigations Directorate (DICRIM).
The incident occurred at 1:30 in the afternoon on Saturday. Videos of the incident as well as photos of the alleged killers have been published on social media.
A witness said that Calcaño Castillo was traveling in a pickup truck toward Los Almendros beach, located south of the city of Baní, and was shot in the face and chest by unknown assailants who were trying to rob a betting shop, when he tried to intervene to prevent it. After being wounded, he fell to the pavement with his service weapon still in his right hand.
He said that more than seven pistol casings were recovered at the scene. Police officers began a rapid pursuit of the bandits and the corresponding investigations.
Calcaño Castillo’s body was removed by a forensic doctor and a member of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and taken to the morgue of the Nuestra Señora de Regla Hospital.”
