Sacramento Police released body camera footage from a May 13 officer-involved shooting that left a man hospitalized after he brandished a fake gun near North 16th and N. B Streets.
According to authorities, officers were dispatched to the area around 9 a.m. following multiple 911 calls reporting a man pointing a gun at bystanders.
Upon arrival, officers confronted the suspect and issued repeated commands for him to remove his hands from his pockets and step onto the sidewalk.
Instead, the man allegedly ignored the commands, walked toward the officers, and was heard saying, “shoot me.” He then pulled what appeared to be a handgun from his pocket. In response, three officers discharged their weapons, striking the suspect and causing him to collapse.
Police immediately rendered aid, and the man was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. He was later booked into jail and is facing charges of resisting arrest and brandishing a replica firearm.
No officers were injured during the incident. Authorities later confirmed the weapon recovered at the scene was a replica, not a real firearm.
The department says the incident is under active investigation by multiple internal units, including homicide, internal affairs, and professional standards.
