AURORA, Ill. – Video released shows a police chase and fatal officer-involved shooting in Aurora of a suspect who was wanted in a home invasion and homicide in Plano.
The victim, a 70-year-old man, was killed by his son.
Several police agencies were involved in the initial search for the suspect that began in Plano on September 27.
Just before 6:45 p.m., officials said deputies with the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist the Plano Police Department for a report of shots fired in the 3800 block of Pratt Street, the sheriff’s office said in a release.
Officers discovered Russell Novak who had been shot multiple times inside a home at the location. He died from his injuries, Plano police said.
Responding officers found a car believed to be involved in the fatal shooting in the area. Police pursued the vehicle all the way to the area of Route 34 and Eola Road in Aurora, where deputies and officers from multiple agencies encountered the armed suspect, Nicholas Novak, who had exited the vehicle, police said.
Nicholas allegedly pointed a firearm at a deputy, resulting in the deputy and a Plano police officer firing their guns and shooting him.
Officers immediately rendered medical aid to Nicholas, authorities said. He was taken to Rush Copley Hospital in Aurora and was pronounced dead, according to ISP.
No officers were injured, police said.
