PORTLAND, Ore. — The Portland Police Bureau (PPB) is asking for the public’s help in identifying and locating a suspect caught on camera beating a dog and they also suspect the same suspect hung the dog from a fire extinguisher or hook.
“Anybody that’s willing to do this to a helpless and vulnerable animal, we have significant concern about what they may be capable of doing to another person or another animal,” said Sgt. Matt Jacobsen with Portland Police Bureau’s Major Crimes Unit.
On August 2, 2024, at an apartment building in the 500 block of Northeast Holladay Street, security cameras captured a man repeatedly abusing a dog.
The PPB says the abuse included hitting the dog with a heavy rope and hanging the dog from a fire extinguisher so it could be repeatedly kicked.
“Right now, our priority is locating the animal, and make sure we are able to provide it care, and then identifying and holding that person accountable,” said Sgt. Jacobsen.
The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, approximately 6’0” in height, 175 pounds, and in his early 30s. He appears to have a tattoo of a cross on his right forearm.
He is known to spend time at businesses near the intersection of Northeast Grand Avenue and Northeast Holladay Street. PPB is asking anyone who frequents that area to keep an eye out for this person and/or the dog, whose condition remains unknown.
PPB is providing video of the abuse that happened in an elevator to help locate the suspect.
