“A serious fire broke out in a mixed residential and commercial building in Chongqing, China, around 0:00 this morning (27th). The scene was like a purgatory. Witnesses even saw people whose whole bodies were on fire and rolling on the ground in pain.
It is reported that the incident occurred on Jiangnan Avenue in Nan’an District, Chongqing. A mixed residential and commercial building suddenly caught fire late in the morning. The fire became more and more fierce, and finally almost the entire building burned. The scene was like purgatory. Some eyewitnesses pointed out that they saw someone whose whole body was on fire and lying on the ground in pain at the scene.
Subsequently, the authorities issued a notice stating that the fire had been extinguished at 0:11 a.m., and one person at the scene was sent to hospital with third-degree burns. Government public information also pointed out that a preliminary investigation determined that the cause of the fire was improper operation by the operators of the noodle shop on the first floor, which caused the kitchen to catch fire and ignite surrounding combustibles. The fire spread upward along the outer wall and once burned from the store on the ground to the eighth floor. The detailed cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Some netizens believed that the Chinese official has only reported one injury, but believes that the actual number of casualties may be more than this number.”
