Shootout at Federal Way gas station causes $10K in damages

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — Federal Way police are investigating after two groups of people opened fire on each other at a gas station early Sunday morning.

Nobody was injured, but the store estimates the shooting caused $10,000 in damages.

According to a Cmdr. Kyle Buchanan, detectives are “actively investigating and working to identify those involved.”

The gas station is located at the intersection of South Pacific Highway and South 272nd Street.

Surveillance video shows a vehicle parked at one of the gas pumps, with another in the parking space near the store. The video shows a series of muzzle flashes, but it’s unclear who fired the first shots.

“There were a lot of bullets. It’s pretty shocking at a busy intersection. It’s kind of alarming, there are always a lot of vehicles out here,” said customer Jeremy Williams.

Williams, and others who visited the store on Thursday, said there have been other acts of violence in area, which sits along the border of Federal Way, Kent and Des Moines.

“It’s getting pretty bad around here, I know law enforcement is trying,” said Williams. “Obviously there are too many guns and too many of them in the wrong hands.”

Williams said he recently moved from the area to Kent, but still visits the gas station.
