Video shows shootout with police after suspect collides with 7-Eleven in Colorado

CASTLE ROCK, Colorado – The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office on Monday released bodycam video of a 2023 police shooting involving a suspect at a 7-Eleven in Castle Rock after the suspect drove his truck into the convenience store during a chase.

The man in the video, Kyle Williamson, 33, pleaded guilty to four counts of first-degree assault and was sentenced Friday to 64 years in prison for the Oct. 11, 2023, crime spree and chase that began in Thornton and ended at the 7-Eleven store at 80 Plum Creek Parkway in Castle Rock.

Bodycam video shows officers coming to the 7-Eleven and ordering Williamson to put down his weapon. But Williamson ignored orders and began shooting at the police officers when officers returned fire. Williamson was hit multiple times during the shootout but survived. None of the officers were injured.

Monday’s release includes security camera footage from the store as Williamson crashed his Chevy Silverado through the front windows. A customer at the counter can be seen jumping out of the way of the truck.

Williamson was on parole at the time of the incident. He was convicted of attempted sexual assault and child abuse causing serious bodily harm in 2011 and was due to be released on parole in 2022.

The Oct. 11 incident began after Thornton police attempted to stop the 33-year-old man for having fake license plates. He then led police on an hours-long chase during which he fired multiple shots at pursuers, according to the sheriff’s office.

Williamson’s wife, Hannah Woolard, was in the truck during the chase and pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting a crime earlier this year. She was sentenced to three years’ probation on August 5.

The officer-involved shooting was investigated by the 18th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT). Investigators found that the officers’ use of force was justified.
