Smash-and-grab foiled after Milpitas store owner fires gun at suspects

MILPITAS, Calif. — Police say a smash-and-grab robbery attempt at a Milpitas jewelry store may have been foiled when the owner pulled out a gun.

Just before 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, between 10 and 15 suspects rushed into a jewelry store near the Seafood City Supermarket on the 1530 block of Landess Avenue, according to Milpitas police. At the time, only the business owner and one employee were inside.

Investigators say the suspects began a smash-and-grab attempt, but the business owner fired a gun during the incident. No one was injured and nothing was taken. The suspects fled the store before officers arrived.

Police are reviewing surveillance footage from the store and nearby businesses to identify the suspects. Anyone with information is urged to contact Milpitas police.
