LAPLACE, La. — A 15-year-old was arrested in St. John parish after he allegedly shot a weapon at a Waffle House in LaPlace.
St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office says they were dispatched to the area of 4304 Highway 51 where they received reports of a shooting in the area.
When deputies arrived, they say they saw several people leaving the scene and running.
Deputies say no one was injured during the shooting but multiple cars were damaged by the gunfire.
According to St. John deputies, more than 40 shots were fired over a period of several minutes.
Witnesses tell deputies that they saw several men wearing ski masks walking around to the rear of the restaurant and then heard shooting.
When the shooting started, the witnesses say they took shelter in bathrooms and offices until the shooting stopped.
St. John deputies were able to identify the teen as one of the possible shooters and he was arrested Friday.
He was charged with illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile and illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities.
Deputies say additional arrest are pending.
Due to the violent criminal history of the suspects including murder charges, SJSO made the decision to utilize the SJSO SWAT to apprehend the suspects.
