Stolen car crash in NYC kills 2; suspects had gun, drugs, and booze in vehicle

NEW YORK — Two people were killed in Manhattan’s Chinatown after a stolen car plowed into bystanders and struck an NYPD van in a shocking crash caught on video.

Authorities said the suspects — driver Autumn Donna Ascencio Romero, 23, and passenger Kennedy Lecraft, 22 — fled the scene but were apprehended shortly after. A gun and ammunition were discovered in the trunk of the stolen blue Chevy Malibu, along with drugs and alcohol.

Romero faces multiple charges including murder, manslaughter, criminal possession of a weapon, and possession of stolen property. She was also already facing charges from an April traffic incident in Brooklyn that left a woman seriously injured. She had previously been released without bail.

Lecraft, arraigned earlier Monday, was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, criminal possession of stolen property, and weapons charges. Her bail was set at $150,000 cash or $300,000 bond.

The vehicle had been rented from Enterprise but was 17 days overdue at the time of the deadly crash.
