North Miami, FL – A man was shot by police and two officers were injured during a tense standoff involving a stolen vehicle at a North Miami apartment complex Wednesday afternoon.
The incident unfolded around 4:15 p.m. near Northeast 137th Street and Fourth Avenue, where North Miami Police responded to reports of a stolen white vehicle. According to witnesses, officers shouted commands at the car before gunfire erupted.
Cellphone video captured by a resident shows officers yelling, “Open the door! Let me see your [expletive] hands!” before surrounding the vehicle. The man, who asked not to be identified, told local media he heard several shots and saw officers pull a bloodied man from the passenger side.
North Miami Police Chief Cherise Gause confirmed that the suspect was shot multiple times after exchanging gunfire with officers. He was taken to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital in unknown condition.
Two officers were also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, though officials said they were not shot. Both are expected to recover.
Police confirmed that two people were taken into custody, but no names or charges have been released. Authorities emphasized that the incident appears to be isolated, but it left local residents rattled.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is now investigating the officer-involved shooting.
