Tourist trampled by elephant in India’s Bandipur Tiger Reserve

KARNATAKA, India – A tourist was injured in Bandipur Tiger Reserve after being trampled by a wild elephant while attempting to take a close-up photograph, according to reports.

The incident occurred on a road connecting Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and was captured in a now-viral video shared by Daniel Osorio. The footage shows the elephant charging and pursuing the man before knocking him down and stomping on him.

Witnesses said the elephant had been calmly eating carrots from a truck as cars waited nearby. Despite posted signs instructing visitors to remain inside their vehicles, the tourist reportedly approached the animal on foot and used a camera flash. The elephant reacted aggressively, chasing and trampling him.

The video sparked widespread criticism online, with many commenters condemning the man’s actions and calling the incident a reminder of the dangers of interfering with wildlife.

Officials urge visitors to follow reserve safety rules and allow trained personnel to manage interactions with wild animals.
