Troutdale man pleads not guilty to kicking puppy, faces animal abuse charges

PORTLAND, Ore. — A man caught on camera allegedly kicking his 12-week-old puppy was in court today on animal abuse charges.

Merlyn Blair pleaded not guilty to one count of second-degree animal abuse and one count of second-degree disorderly conduct.

A judge ordered Blair to not have any animals while the case is pending.

Blair is accused of kicking the puppy, named Bruno, outside his Troutdale apartment.

The alleged abuse was caught on camera by a neighbor, who reported the incident to apartment management.

Police say when Blair found out he’d been reported, he went to the neighbor’s front door and kicked it.

The neighbor immediately called the police. Officers viewed the video and arrested Blair.
