A security video from Akron Public Schools released Monday shows an Akron police officer striking a 16-year-old Firestone Community Learning Center student in the head at least three times during an attempted arrest in front of several students and staff members last week.
The officer, who was assigned to the high school as a resource officer, has been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of a use of force investigation, the mayor and deputy police chief said in a press conference Monday afternoon.
But no matter the outcome, they said, he will not return as a school resource officer at the request of the school district.
