MISSOURI — The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department released body cam video, asking for the public’s help to identify the individuals seen stomping on a police car early Sunday morning.
Police said the incident started at around 2:30am — after they received no less than 13 calls for a group of more than 100 people partying on the rooftop of an apartment building on Washington Avenue.
As officers tried to disperse the crowd, they began to congregate outside the building.
Videos released show multiple individuals jumping on the top of a patrol car with an officer inside.
Police said that at some point through the ordeal, someone opened the passenger-side door of the police vehicle, which immediately prompted a city-wide “officer in need of aid” call.
Multiple police vehicles responded, at which point the crowd scattered into different directions.
Cars began racing and driving dangerously in the area, and some of the people inside were firing guns, a source told 5 On Your Side.
Police confirmed shots were fired but said that no one was injured by the gunfire.
The officer who was inside the car was uninjured, but police said the vehicle sustained “substantial damage”.
Anyone with information is asked to call a 4th District detective at 314-444-2500 or CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS (8477).
