MIAMI BEACH, FL — A surveillance video has surfaced showing a Miami Beach police officer in a marked patrol vehicle striking a man who was fleeing from officers in South Beach early Friday morning.
The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Jeremey Stafford, was involved in an incident at the Chesterfield Hotel on Collins Avenue around 6:55 a.m. on June 14. According to authorities, officers initially responded to the hotel after Stafford allegedly threatened them and became aggressive. When officers attempted to detain him, Stafford fled on foot.
Police deployed a Taser in an attempt to stop him, but it was reportedly ineffective. Moments later, surveillance footage captured the suspect running into the street before being hit by a police vehicle. After the impact, multiple officers converged on Stafford to place him under arrest. Miami Beach Fire Rescue also responded to the scene.
Stafford was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and faces multiple charges, including:
- Battery on a law enforcement officer
- Resisting arrest with violence
- Resisting arrest without violence
- Possession of an open container
