An Idaho State Police Trooper and a stranded motorist he was helping were nearly mowed down by a pickup truck following a six-car collision on I-84, authorities said.
The trooper was assisting the driver of a Toyota who had a flat tire on Interstate-84 in Ada County — when a pickup truck suddenly slid onto the shoulder and smashed into the rear of the Toyota.
The trooper jumped back to avoid getting hit and fell over the concrete median. The stranded motorist also managed to jump out of harm’s way.
The trooper was taken to the hospital for treatment and has since been released. The motorist also suffered minor injuries but was not taken to a hospital.
Police said a preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of the pickup truck attempted to slow down before passing the patrol car when he was hit by another vehicle, causing a chain-reaction involving four other vehicles.
No other injuries were reported.
