Deputies respond to Westland High School following massive fight

COLOMBUS, Ohio — A huge fight at Westland High School required the response of over a dozen sheriff deputies Wednesday morning.

A spokeswoman for Southwest City Schools said some kind of “neighborhood incident” that began Tuesday night among students led to the massive brawl at Westland High School.

The fight was first reported at around 8:20am Wednesday and resulted in the school being evacuated.

Deputies said one student had to be pepper-sprayed to control the situation and was transported to the hospital for treatment. No other injuries have been reported and rumors of a student stabbed during the incident have been refuted.

As many as 100 people were involved in the fight, either as direct participants or as spectators, The Colombus Dispatch reported.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said several students have been detained in connection to the fight as deputies continue to investigate.
