Wild Cybertruck rampage ends in police standoff in Garner

A North Carolina man suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder was arrested after police say he attempted to run over his wife with a Tesla Cybertruck and then triggered a multi-hour standoff in a residential neighborhood.

The incident unfolded Sunday afternoon in Garner, near Durham, when officers responded to reports of a domestic violence situation involving 32-year-old Nathan Lorne Tharp. According to police, Tharp struck his wife with the vehicle, knocking her to the ground, and then attempted to hit her again.

Officers opened fire as Tharp accelerated toward her a second time, but he was not injured.

After the confrontation, Tharp allegedly drove through a neighbor’s fence multiple times, slamming into parts of the home and causing significant structural damage. Surveillance video obtained by WRAL News shows the Cybertruck repeatedly ramming the property before Tharp abandoned the vehicle and fled inside the house.

The homeowners were forced to evacuate as Tharp barricaded himself inside. A SWAT team responded and spent hours negotiating before Tharp surrendered without further violence.

He was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for evaluation, then released later that night. Tharp now faces multiple felony charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence, and assault on a law enforcement officer.
