A New Orleans woman reportedly went on Instagram Live after fatally stabbing her 4-year-old daughter and critically wounding her 2-year-old son.
Janee Pedescleaux, 31, was taken into custody on Sunday on charges of second-degree murder, attempted murder, and second-degree cruelty to a juvenile, according to the New Orleans Police Department.
Ms Pedescleaux allegedly stabbed her daughter to death and tried to do the same to her son.
Both children were taken to an area hospital in a private car. The 4-year-old girl died at the hospital, and the 2-year-old boy remains in critical condition, according to police.
Legal filings reveal that Ms Pedescleaux and the children’s father, Jermaine Roberts, were engaged in a custody battle.
Mr Roberts sued Ms Pedescleaux in Orleans Parish court in April. He was seeking joint custody so that he would be allowed to see the kids on the weekend.
He said in legal filings that Ms Pedescleaux wasn’t allowing him to see the kids, adding that she was “not stable or providing a healthy environment for the kids”.
A hearing was scheduled to take place later in August.
